THE Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Punjab Police through its Director General of Police (DGP) on a petition demanding

CBI probe into an alleged false FIR registered by Naya Gaon Police against NRI Amit Kumar Saini and five other residents of Chandigarh/Naya Gaon.

The petitioners alleged that they were falsely implicated by the Mohali Police. Serious allegations have been levelled against as many as ten police officials.

The petitioners stated that a false and fabricated criminal case was registered against them by the Naya Gaon cops.

According to the sequence of events,as narrated in the petition, one of the petitioners Sandeep Sandhu had gone to Naya Gaon police station,on January 9 afternoon for enquiring about the status of a complaint filed by him against one Balkaar Sohi, who had allegedly fired shots at him before Diwali.

As he was recording his statement,he was put behind bars and an FIR was registered against him.

Saini,is an NRI residing in Australia. He was in Chandigarh for his marriage. He went to Naya Gaon police station around 6.30 pm on Diwali day,and found the car of his friend,Sandeep Sandhu, parked outside. He came to know from the officers present there that Sandhu had been arrested. When he found out that his friend had been booked in a false case, and had been tortured in lock up,Saini protested to the Munshi of the police station. His appeals to the police officers to allow medical aid/check up to Sandhu, did not evoke any response.

Saini contacted several police officers. The petitioner alleged that his repeated phone calls to senior police officers solicited only assurances that they would look into the matter.

He contacted journalists too seeking their intervention. Meanwhile, officers allegedly threw Sandhu outside the outer gate of the police station. Sandhu’s parents were outside. The petition states that the police wanted Sandhu’s parents to take him for treatment.

The petition further states that “Saini, and family members of Sandhu did not fall prey to the tactics of the officers. They continued contacting mediapersons and senior police officers for intervention.

They talked to some mediapersons for arranging a press conference next morning. Police officers were infuriated at this.

They registered a false case against Saini,Sandhu (who was already under

their custody),Pritpal Kaur and Pawan Sandhu (parents of Sandhu),and other

family members and friends of Sandhu,on the ground that they had attacked

the officers with dangs/kirpans etc.

The accused could get bail after remaining in jail for a couple of months,” reads the petition.
