In a major decision, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday announced 20 per cent reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC) in promotions for group A and B government posts.

Earlier, the quota was limited to group C and D positions, excluding SCs from higher A and B promotions.

In the Assembly, Khattar said the Supreme Court had directed states to examine SC participation across cadres. After analysing data, this quota is being implemented, he stated.

Khattar said: “We have already examined all the data. After that I make an announcement for promotions for scheduled castes. There is already reservation for promotions in C and D categories. Till now, there was no provision for A and B. Today, I am making announcement that we are implementing 20% reservation for A and B categories too. Within one week, notification and instructions will be issued in this regard.”

Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala welcomed the move and urged clearing promotion backlogs.

As per the government, the decision aims to open up higher-level promotion opportunities for all reserved categories. A roster system is being prepared for effective implementation.

Khattar emphasised the new quota will extend reservations to all promotion stages, ensuring continued SC representation in government jobs at all levels.
