(Photo: Dharampal Singh Malik/ Facebook, Representational)The Haryana Congress’ disciplinary committee chairman Dharampal Malik on Saturday said that notices will be issued to those leaders who ignored the party’s protocol during a recent programme in Hisar. In its first major meeting in Ambala, the state unit of Congress cautioned party leaders to “maintain decorum or face action”.
The action comes after some complaints were received by the committee that the photo of senior party leader and Lok Sabha MP Kumari Selja was missing from the hoardings of the programme in Hisar.
After the meeting of the disciplinary committee, Malik said some party leaders have been identified and preparations are underway to serve notices to them. Replies will be sought from those Congress leaders who ignored the party’s protocol, he said.
“Firm action shall be taken against leaders who publicly make statements against the party line, even if they are MLAs or senior leaders,” Malik said.
A large number of district presidents, both from rural and urban constituencies, attended the meeting at Congress Bhavan in Ambala Cantonment. Malik chaired the meeting, while committee’s other members including former MP Kailasho Saini, former MLA Anil Kumar Dhantoori, and member-secretary Advocate Rohit Jain also remained present.
Member-Secretary Advocate Rohit Jain stated that a few leaders are “tarnishing” the party’s image by making unnecessary statements against party leaders through media, social media, and other platforms. “The discipline committee has received complaints against a few such leaders, and these complaints are being reviewed. Based on solid evidence, recommendations for action will be made. All district presidents, senior leaders, and workers will strictly follow the guidelines issued by the organisation,” Jain added.
Malik further said that leaders who have not adhered to party guidelines will be issued show-cause notices and if their responses are not satisfactory, “strict action will follow”. “The committee has so far received four written complaints, and some via media reports. In total, 10–12 complaints have been received. No leniency will be given to anyone involved in irresponsible statements,” he added.
The discipline committee is holding meetings across all districts of Haryana that has been divided into five zones — Zone 1: Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra, and Kaithal; Zone 2: Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, and Jind; Zone 3: Rohtak, Jhajjar, Rewari, Mahendragarh, Bhiwani, and Dadri; Zone 4: Faridabad, Gurugram, Nuh, and Palwal; and Zone 5: Hisar, Rohtak, Fatehabad, and Sirsa.
