The Government Teachers Union,in a meeting held here on Sunday, rejected the proposal of the UT Education Department to extend school hours for teachers under the RTE Act. The decision was taken in the meeting of the executive body of the union.
The members said that the Administration is in haste to implement this clause without providing sufficient infrastructure including sitting space along with other facilities to the teachers in the schools. Even neighboring states are yet to implement this clause, alleged the executive body of GTU.
The committee members unanimously appealed to the Administration to withdraw the showcause notice given to about 100 lecturers for not delivering lectures at Government Model Senior Secondary Schools at Sector 8 and Sector 19.
GTU informed the Administration that these 100 lecturers were forced by a committee not to reach to the venue for delivering lectures. The decision of suspension may also be reviewed in the larger interest of teachers,it suggested.
Moreover the GTU is set to organise a debate on this issue by holding a conference of teachers, principals, officers and psychologists. The members also pleaded to give priority for final solution of long pending demands such as promotions of JBT,nursery, drawing,PTI,senior lab attendants; central pay scale for instructors, master pay scale to drawing,PTI and tailoring teachers, immediate notification for fixation of notional pay with effect from January 1,1986 and grant of grade pay Rs 4200 to nursery teacher.
The GTU has also demanded the regularisation of SSA teachers and casual leaves for SSA teachers from 10 to 15 days on the pattern of Punjab, and the enhancement of salary of SSA teachers from the beginning of the new session i.e from April instead of the middle of the session. The GTU asked the Adminsitration to implement the demands within 10 days .
