There is a grave need to change the mindset of men,he added.

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting,Manish Tewari,expressed profound grief over the recent rape incident involving five-year-old girl child and stressed on police reforms while inaugurating the Bro. Meredith Basketball Court at St John’s High School,Sector 26 here on Saturday.

“This rape incident is very saddening. Even the Prime Minister,in strong words,has condemned it. The police is the states’ subject,but there is a need for states,with the help of the Centre,to implement the Supreme Court’s guidelines in the Parkash Singh case,detailing how to make police efficient,” he added

There is a grave need to change the mindset of men,he added.

Hailing the surprise visit of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to Punjab,the minister said that such visits are required to strengthen the Congress at the grassroot level.

The minister was here to inaugurate the basketball court that has been named after his favourite teacher during his school days – Brother Meredith. Meredith had developed the love for sports in him.

Tewari,along with his batch mates,joined the boys in the game. In his speech to the audience,the minister spoke about the importance of fitness and sports,and also went on to speak about the value of prayer,inculcated in his daily life by the school.

St John’s Old Boys’ Association (SJOBA) also conferred a letter of membership to Tewari requesting him to formally join the association.
