The management committees of government schools in the city have issued a penalty notice to the company responsible for supplying uniforms to students from classes I to VIII.
The uniforms were supposed to be delivered in the first week of July, but most of the schools have not received the uniforms yet. The tender for the uniforms was floated in the month of May.
According to the agreement, the uniforms were to be supplied within 45 to 60 days of tender being floated.
The authorities of the schools claim that they sent repeated reminders to the Delhi-based company Alok but got no valid answers.
Principal,Government Model Senior Secondary School Sector 34,Vinod Sharma said,We sent enough reminders to the company but they were giving invalid reasons for the delay in supply. We not only made calls to them, but also wrote to them many times,to which they always replied that the delivery is in process. Now we have issued them a penalty notice. If they delay the supply for more than one week, the penalty will keep on increasing on weekly-basis.
For his part, the Chandigarh representative of the company said,The schools need to understand that it is a labour-intensive work and takes time. We have already distributed the uniforms to few of the schools and within this week, rest of the uniforms will also be delivered to the respective schools.
