In order to spread awareness among residents of Chandigarh so that they can contribute to a better and greener city,CII- Yi’s Go Green campaign has launched a campaign that will take place from June 1 to 5. To make the programme participative,the Go Green campaign will include a cycle rally,street plays,interactive quiz sessions at public places,do-it-yourself,a live demo on rain water harvesting and awareness,jingles on FM radio,mass text messages and interaction with students.

City-based FyvElementz,meanwhile,striving to cull out dynamic youth leaders from the city,is hoping to make World Environment Day on June 5 an absolutely no private vehicle day. As part of their ‘I CARE,I ACT’ project,members of FyvElementz will target 40 sectors of the city for their campaign. Organising a cleaning event in Sector 17,members will motivate people to sign flexes to shun private vehicles and to encourage public transport to preserve the environment. “We are receiving an overwhelming response and support from people of Chandigarh,NGOs and also students from various schools,” says Tushaar Madaan,a member of the team.

Vox Populi
In its attempt to find the latest singing sensation in Punjab,PTC Punjabi’s Tata Docomo Voice of Punjab started a road journey on May 19 from Amritsar to Patiala,was in Chandigarh recently. In spite of the sweltering heat,aspirants turned up for the auditions held in Bal Bhawan,Sector 23. “PTC Punjabi wants to provide a platform to aspiring singers and search for hidden talents from the interiors of Punjab,” say music director Tejwant Kittu,singer Balkar Sidhu and Shamsher Sandhu,celebrity judges for Chandigarh. The contest was open to all Punjabi girls and boys between the age group of 18 to 27 years. The two winners– a boy and a girl– will get to record an album with a reputed music company,apart from other prizes.

Luxury zone
Mannequins,the city’s first tapas bar,suspended LCD televisions,hi-design suites and rooms,a central green area,striking gold and black entrance,Chandigarh’s first fashion hotel — The Toy Hotel in Sector 34 is set to open its doors to the public. Says hotelier Akshay Verma,“I’ve taken inputs from the best in India and abroad to create the looks,feel and service,” says Verma. “I wanted Toy Hotel to be a modern,funky and fun place,” he adds. Food consultants from Delhi have designed the menu for the fine dining Indian restaurant.
