GMSSS-10 fencers emerge overall winners in boys’ U-19 event

Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 10 fencers continued to make merry in the ongoing UT Inter School Fencing competition as they finished as overall winners in boys' Under-19 team event

Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 10 fencers continued to make merry in the ongoing UT Inter School Fencing competition as they finished as overall winners in boys’ Under-19 team event. They garnered 48 points to emerge as the numero uno team at Government Model Senior Secondary School ground in Sector 10 on Monday.

Their nearest competitor,Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 15,finished with 13 points to secure the second place while Ajit Karam Singh International Public School,Sector 41,finished third with 10 points.

The hosts claimed all the team events- foil,epee and sabre- in boys’ Under-19 team category. GMSSS-15 finished second in foil and epee team events. Meanwhile,in individual category,Ravi of GMSSS-10 clinched top spot in foil and sabre events. Kanav won the individual epee title.

Similarly,in the UT Inter School softball tournament,Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 32 lost to Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 8 by 1-3 in boys’ Under-19 age category.

In another match,Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 35 thrashed Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 47 by 12-2,Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 37 outplayed Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 15 by 14-4 and Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 32 was handed a walkover by St Anne’s School,Sector 32.

Rain plays spoilsport

MOHALI: Due to inclement weather,only three matches were played on the opening day of the main draw of the AITA Talent Series Total Tennis Championship being held at British School in Sector 70 on Monday. In the boys’ Under-14 category,Raghav Negi defeated Chaitanya Choudhary 9-4 to enter the next round. Rishabh Sharda made his intensions clear by routing Abhay Mohan 9-0 without losing a single game while Chiraz Singh also booked his place into the next round with a facile 9-3 win over Puru Mehta.

Football tourney from tomorrow

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Girls Junior State Football Tournament for Dr Kamesh Bhargava Memorial Trophy will be held at the St Stephen’s School ground in Sector 45 from August 7 to 9. A total of eight schools have confirmed their participation for the tournament. Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School,Sector 26 are the defending champions. The matches will start at 9 am.
