For city women,Wednesday night is the time to party

It is well past 11 pm on a weary Wednesday night as we make our way towards Sector 8 on Madhya Marg. The roads are fairly deserted,as they would be at that time of the night. It’s hard to imagine there’s a rocking,packed-to the-house party going on in the neighbourhood, where, surprisingly, women are in full attendance.

“Every Wednesday is Ladies Night,” says Harinder Singh Saini, the general manager at Score,a lounge and nightclub in Sector 8. Outside,as 20-somethings dressed in their little black dresses queue up for entry, the party’s fast warming up inside. “We introduced the concept a while back and the response has been good. There are no cover charges for the ladies and we provide drinks on the house till 10:30 pm,” he adds. Neha Pasricha,24,a marketing executive is determined to make the most of it. “We are regulars here and in fact have timed offs at work to meet up on Wednesday nights,” she says, while taking a moment’s breather from the dance floor. This Wednesday night is special for another reason. Dishing out groovy chick-hit numbers is lady DJ Sanjana who seems to have caught the pulse of those assembled. “We love the Ladies Night. It’s safer as the girls outnumber the boys and it’s a perfect way to break the monotony of the week,” says Gulveen Sohi,a college fresher enjoying herself with three other classmates.

The concept of a Ladies Night in the city, that too on a Wednesday, was first introduced by Taj Chandigarh at its Lava bar. But unlike the teeny-boppers omnipresent at Score,Wednesdays at Lava plays host to a more mature set of ladies. “Corporates to women friends to professionals,it’s a mixed crowd that makes the most here,” says the hotel’s sales manager Sandeep Makroo. Apart from the entry charge waiver, the drinks are on the house with a few complimentary snacks offered. “The concept of Ladies Night is popular in the metros and it’s fast catching up here. We have seen a definite increase in the number of patrons,” adds Makroo.

For Sneha Malik, head of an advertising firm in the city who is in her early 30s,Wednesdays are the perfect days to de-stress and unwind over a drink or two. Her favourite is Taj’s Lava. “Weekends are mostly crowded affairs if one’s looking to go clubbing,” says Malik. “I like the easy pace of Wednesday evening and at the same time it’s nice to see women let down their hair once in a while.”

Buoyed by the response that Ladies Nights have got in the city, popular restrobar Blue Ice in Sector 17 is rolling out the same on Wednesdays. “We gave in to popular demand,” says manager Arvind Kumar. Single ladies and couples are welcome with the ladies getting to choose free drinks from the bar. “The music also takes on special themes for the ladies,” adds Kumar. Waiting for Wednesday now,are we?
