17-year-old Pooja,who had met with an accident on Friday after a CTU bus had hit her,continues to battle for life and remains in a critical condition at the Advanced Trauma Centre of the PGIMER.
Though surgeons performed surgery on her hand,which had got injured in the accident,her brain surgery could not be done as she is in a critical condition and is not fit for the surgery. She continues to be unconscious in the ICU at the ATC,on a ventilator. Sources say that the family does not have enough resources to afford her treatment.
Pooja is the second of five siblings and her father,Baijnath is a labourer. The incident that took place on Saturday morning bears resembles the Anupama accident case,in which the latter lost her life eventually.
Pooja,a resident of Sector 52,was on the way to the Government High School,Sector 35,at 8 am when the mishap occurred near the Sector 43 roundabout. According to eyewitnesses,the bus was speeding and hit Poojas cycle from the right,making her lose her balance. She fell and was hit by the front wheel of the bus. Her head hit the road. She sustained grievous head injuries and also injured her hand.
She was rushed to the Government Multi Speciality Hospital in Sector 16 and was later referred to the PGI,where she is undergoing treatment at the Advanced Trauma Centre.
The police has booked the driver of the bus,Shamsher Singh,in a case of rash and negligent driving under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC registered against him in the Sector 36 police station. He was arrested and later released on bail.
