In the last few weeks,Chandigarh golfer Feroz Singh Garewal sweated a lot on his swing and was looking to perfect it. The desire to change his golf swing arose as the 15-year-old was not getting the desired results this season despite working on his technique and looking to fine tune it. Looking to get some wins under his belt,Garewal then worked to get the perfect golf swing.
With the IGU Punjab Juniors Golf Championship starting at Chandigarh Golf Club from today, the youngster is aiming for a good start at his home golf course.
“I have been working on my swing for the last few weeks and that’s the reason I had a rough patch. I wanted to make some changes before I get busy with tournaments and I thought it was the best time to try my hands at this. I couldn’t qualify for the Nick Faldo series last week but I have put the disappointment behind me. Chandigarh Golf Club is my home course and I will be aiming for a good finish here,” shared the golfer talking to Sportline. Garewal shifted to Category A last year and his last victory at the IGU Junior circuit came in the form of Haryana Juniors Golf Championship held at Golden Greens Golf Club,Gurgaon in April earlier this year. Garewal also claimed the title in the Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship and finished seventh in the Singapore Amateur Golf Championship. “I shifted to Category A last year and it has been a smooth transition for me. I won the Haryana Juniors Championship in April earlier this year and the Jakarta title also came at a perfect moment for me. It was just that I wanted to make some changes in my golf swing so that I could perform well,” shared the student of DAV Public School,Sector 15. Meanwhile,a total of 63 top junior golfers will be playing in the championship. The field opens up even more as the top two on the merit list, leader Viraj Madappa of Kolkata and Manu Gandas, have both opted out, ostensibly to prepare for the Nick Faldo series in China, for which they have both qualified. Chandigarh’s Karandeep Kochhar and Tapendra Ghai, who have also qualified for China, should give Feroz a run for his money along with Pukhraj Singh Gill, who is currently placed fourth on the IGU Junior Tour Order of Merit.
The champiosnhip will see four golfers each representing the East and South zones, while there are two entries received from the West zone. All other 53 junior golfers will represent the North zone.
