From behind the burqa!

She tells us the ladies from across the border are more than keen to meet and trade with their counter parts here. “For it’s because of them that I got permission from my husband to start my line of clothes. During the last exhibition,he realized that if women,who share the same values,can work and excel so can I,” smiles Heena,as she spreads out her collection and radiates in her new found freedom.

This,as a few ladies in burqa come forward and share their stories of struggle and success. From a time when they made friends from India on Facebook,got inspired and took the plunge. “We realised their was life beyond family and that work and family could co-exist together,” they chorus and as the hug one of their Facebook friends Deepshika Gupta,closer. Gupta tells us,she too has learnt a lot from he friends from Pakistan. “They have taught me patience and the art of make up,” she says.

But then,these ladies from Pakistan still have a few apprehensions and reservation,when it comes to exhibiting across borders,“India is amongst the few destinations where we go for trade. This because of the hospitality and respect that we get here and we skeptical of new places,” says Varda Irfan.

Khurshid Balras,CEO of Pakistan World Trade & Promotions,too nods in agreement,“Indian culture makes them feel comfortable and they are able to deal freely here. Besides,understanding the commonalities in cultures,the Pakistani women are able to cater to the need and tastes of their Indian counterparts better.”

Balras says that the Government in Pakistan too is helping to promote women entrepreneurs. “For instance,the government of Pakistan is providing $100 a day to women entrepreneurs in Government sponsored delegation,” he said.
