At a time when all we hear are words like ‘recession-hit market’,‘gloomy sales figures’,‘dropping footfalls’…the invite by a German apparel brand setting up shop in the city appeared like a silver lining in an otherwise grey cloud. “I wouldn’t necessarily say these are such bad times. There’s an upside to setting up shop when the market’s looking low,” quipped S Ramprasad,CEO,Lerros Fashions India Pvt Ltd that’s brought in the German brand to town by way of a sprawling store spread over 1,000 sq ft in Sector 17. “We forayed into the Indian retail scenario in 2008 and this would be our seventh store in the country,” informed the CEO at the formal launch.

For the uninitiated,Lerros is a premium wear brand from Germany,dishing out apparel for both men and women and is known to bring out as many as 12 collections through the year. Till now,Lerros has been available out of metros like Delhi and Mumbai. “But we had been eyeing Chandigarh for a while now,” admits Ramprasad. While there’s talk of bad economics,the CEO doesn’t seem perturbed. “It’s a good time for us and that’s how I see it,” he answers.

Interestingly,the next couple of months will see the brand “experiment” with the collections on offer. “I have heard that the consumer here is very well travelled and has a nose for good brands. We hope to fit in that respect,” mentioned Ramprasad who will be putting up myriad collections on offer . As far as styling goes,Lerros apparel will fit anyone between the ages of 25 to 40. “The look is cheerful and vibrant,given it’s summer here,” he explains adding,“Also for the ladies we bring in a range of summer dresses in denims and linen.” That apart there’s a mix of sport,street and vintage styling. Given the summer palette,whites,greys and denim blues run right through as do bright floral colours for both men and women. And since the brand’s a major European player,the global style is apparent in the collections as well. .
