August 15 is a date that reminds us of our shared history and personal sacrifices of many. It also evokes emotional pride and the feeling of freedom. Celebrating this is Kadamb Arts exhibition of paintings, titled Beyond August 15. A retrospect of the birth of a sense of hope, ambition, enthusiasm and will power is what the eight artists exhibiting here have brought on the canvas. While Vishal Bhuwanias dry pastel on paper depicts various imprints that speak of freedom,Amargeets paintings reflect the colours of patriotism, paying a silent homage to freedom fighters. The male figure plays a central role in Nitasha Jainis works. The artist admits she is deeply affected by all the roles a man plays in his social, personal and professional life. Meena Bayas work is inspired by the hard work that rural people of Rajasthan put in,and their contribution towards the growth of the nation. The wide-eyed and elongated figures represent their dignity and self-esteem,points out the artist. Madan Lal,on the other hand,is intrigued by the multiple emotions playing a vital role in urbanisation. A complex setting of various insignificant things comes alive in Lals work, which is bright and multi-layered. Bheem Malhotra is known for his stylish landscapes and has painted the Indian landscape in the colours of the flag. Namita Kohli has painted life in fragments, each distinct yet interwoven, and her vivid canvas showcases varied aspects of ones life. Alka Kalras painting shows her observations of society and how it emerges out of the turbulence and negativity.
The exhibition is on till August 24 at Hotel Aquamarine,
Sector 22
