Tricity will have only two centres for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2011 – the MBA entrance exam for admission to all the Indian Institute of Managements and other business colleges – that is set to begin on October 22 and will run to November 18. While there were three centres in the Tricity region in 2010,this year only Everonn Education Limited in Sector 14,Panchkula and Indo Global College of Engineering in Abhipur village,Mohali will hold the test.
As far as the northern region goes, two more cities,Jammu and Dehradun, have been added to list of test sites for the first time. The addition of these two cities is expected to reduce the number of students appearing for the tests in the Tricity centres to around 7,000 to 8,000,down from the 10,000 students who appeared last year.
This year, the role of strategy has been significantly reduced and the most important factor in CAT,time management, has been taken away and this makes a students job a lot easier as he only needs to focus on the questions at hand, said Hirdesh Madan, director of coaching centre Bulls Eye.
In another significant move, all thirteen IIMs will participate in the admission process from the beginning this time. Last year, some of the institutes could not participate at the start as they were in the process of being set up. This year three IIMs at Raipur,Ranchi and Tiruchirappalli will join the older institutes in offering fellow programmes in management. In addition to the flagship PGP,IIM Ranchi will launch a post-graduate diploma in human resource management.
