From taking their wife-to-be for shopping for the trousseau,to decorating the bedroom in a manner that will appeal to them, grooms in the city are making an effort to welcome their brides in a grand manner. Expecting the girl to adjust in just any room in the house is passe. Nowadays, everyone wants a space that appeals to them, and I for sure feel that a bride deserves one as soon as she walks into her new house, says Ashish Bhatia, who is tying the knot on November 29. Among other presents,he is also gifting his wife a brand new master suite. Right from the tiles to the colour of the walls, everything is being done with the consent of his to-be wife. She should feel at home from day one, he says.
Anshu Anand, who provides interior and furniture solutions, nods in agreement. It is special to create a space for someone. Young couples today have a busy lifestyle,so they would want to come back to a modern, functional house, where things are to their taste, says Anand, adding that the new couples prefer a minimalistic look, compared to ornamental. Practicality is important, she says.
When it comes to wall colours, gold, red, orange and yellow seem popular. The bridal hues are most sought after, says Sohan Sharma, who owns a hardware store in Sector 18. Elaborate dressers are also marketing the rooms of couples, chips in Aarti Sinha,MCom final year student of Panjab University, who is getting married on February 18. The room has to be changed from a place for a bachelor,to something befitting for a bride. An elaborate wardrobe,shoe-racks and life-size mirror are mandatory, says Sinha. Interior designer Aradhana Kakar adds,The room becomes more swanky and ample storage space is a must.
While some couples stick to immediate requirements, others think ahead and make space for the baby too. Renovating the room every few years is not feasible,so we are planning in advance, says Amit Gupta,an interior designer, who has made space for a baby cot and a cupboard.
The concept of studio apartments within the house is also gaining popularity. Most couples want a separate unit,so they renovate the first floor, making space for a complete kitchen, fitness area and lounge for entertainment, says Gupta.
However, refurnishing does not mean discarding the old. It simply involves revamping. Use what can be used and give away the rest, says Ankit Gupta of Vishal Paper Tech, who got his room extended into a suite, with a luxury sitting area, dresser, walk in closet and a bathing area, complete with steam and sauna.
At Nitin Aggarwal, director,Him Teknoforge Limiteds house, renovation and wedding preparations are going hand-in-hand. While one day is dedicated to shopping for cards, the other is to finalise the wall texture, says Aggarwal, who is getting married on January 15. He has opted to go in for walnut and cream shades in the room. Each and every addition has been discussed with my to-be wife, he says.
Eventually, both the bride and groom are satisfied. Both are happy and look forward to moving in, says Nidhi Pawa, who got the room done according to her liking about two years back. Now her brother-in-law,Pavit Pahwa, director,Avery Freewheel, has renovated his room in accordance with his new brides liking.
