Chandigarh Police on Saturday lodged an FIR in connection with the alleged releasing of impounded vehicles on the basis of forged signatures of judicial officers in 2019.
Police said the role of some staff at District Court at Sector 43, and traffic cops who were posted then at Sector 29 traffic police lines is under the scanner.
A case of cheating was registered on the complaint of Vikas Biswal, a resident of Panchkula. He alleged that his four-wheeler was challaned in November 2019 under the offence of drink and drive.
It is further submitted that he had made the payment of Rs. 10,000 against said challan in the District Court at Sector 43, and received the release order, but Ahlmad, a court employee, told him that Vishal did not give him the receipt of the payment. It is further submitted that Biswal got his vehicle released from Sector 29 traffic police lines but still its status is being shown as pending on the traffic police website.
Sources said at least 60 such vehicles were released on the basis of forged signatures of six judicial officers in 2019 when the amended Motor Vehicles Act, 2019 was implemented, making the fine of various offences including drink and driver stricter. The matter had reached Punjab and Haryana High Court, which further asked enquiry to the then district and session judge in District Court.
