FIR against agent who sent Ludhiana man to England on ‘fake documents’
Police said accused also duped victim's family of Rs 10.50L, promising work permit.

An FIR was registered Tuesday against a travel agent for allegedly sending a man to England in October on the “basis of forged documents” and duping his family of Rs 10.5 lakh, police said.
Police identified the accused as Shauki, who took Rs 10.5 lakh from the victim, Manpreet Singh (23), promising a work permit in England.
The family filed a complaint in March this year.
Following an investigation, an FIR was registered at Ludhiana’s Sadar police station under BNS Section 318(4) (cheating) and Section 24 of Immigration Act against Shauki.
Manpreet’s father, Pyara Singh, a retired insurance employee, had alleged that his brother (victim’s paternal uncle) had introduced them to Shauki. Shauki told the family that he would arrange Manpreet’s work permit in England.
The accused allegedly arranged for Manpreet’s travel in October last year. “My son reached England on October 22 but the very next day his tourist visa expired. Since all the documents were fake and the email IDs were also controlled by the agent, we later realized we were duped.”
The father had said once the British authorities caught Manpreet during verification, he was lodged in jail for fifteen days.
Manpreet’s father hired a lawyer in England at his own expense, spending nearly Rs 5 lakh to secure his son’s release, apart from another Rs 1 lakh on his return ticket.
Manpreet had to be admitted to DMCH for nearly a month for his depression, his father had said.
