Fatehdeep eyes upcoming AITA c’ship glory

Fatehdeep Singh of DAV Model School,Sector 15,made his coaches proud when he won the boys' Under-14 National title in the MCC-Adidas Nationals held at Mumbai recently.

Fatehdeep Singh of DAV Model School,Sector 15,made his coaches proud when he won the boys’ Under-14 National title in the MCC-Adidas Nationals held at Mumbai recently. Few months back, other CLTA trainees,Ishaque Eqbal and Vanshika Sawhney had won the Under-12 boys and girls titles,respectively. Fatehdeep overpowered Garvit Batra of Delhi in the final 3-6,6-4,6-2 to bag the title. Fatehdeep,coached by Gary O’Brien,Director Coaching,CLTA,was inducted into the CLTA programme two years back. Fatehdeep was the runners-up in U-12 nationals in 2008.

Praising his trainee,O’Brien said,“Fatehdeep has shown tremendous growth in his game in the past two years. He needs to continue with the momentum and aim high. Taking part in as many AITA tournaments will be key to success for him.” Fateh ,whose U-14 and U-16 AITA ranking is 3 and 8 respectively,has his eyes fixed on upcoming AITA National tournament to be held in New Delhi from September 13. He said,“I am enjoying my tennis very much,and winning is always morale boosting. The fact that I am doing well in the U-14 category,gives me the confidence to concentrate on the U-16 and U-18 events. I want to excel in the higher age group in order to fit into the senior bracket in the coming years. My coach,school Principal and parents,keep on egging me to do well and remain focussed.” Fatehdeep wants to make it to the junior Indian Davis Cup team in the coming time.
