Priyanka Khoslas debut collection as a designer lives up to her image of a sharp dresser
Having been associated with the world of fashion for over a decade now,Priyanka Khosla has a trained eye in the field. Always impeccably turned out,it would be fair to say that the director of Inter-National Institute of Fashion (INIFD) is one of Chandigarhs original fashionistas who has stayed on top of trends. But what most wouldnt be aware of is the fact that she has been designing most of her outfits herself. I have always liked to dress well but didnt like shopping at stores that stock multiple options of the same outfit, said Khosla. After her daughter, author Tishaa Khosla, began to have wardrobe woes,Priyanka decided to take the matter in her own hands. Though the younger Khosla has been wearing her mothers creations for a while, the Priyanka Khosla signature label officially rolled out on Monday.
Her Spring-Summer 2013 collection is vibrant with pop colours but also makes space for an elegant line in ivory, silver and white. Most dresses end well above the knees and the A-line cut seems to be a favourite. Peplums have been used in interesting ways. What makes her western wear stand out is the use of colour, subtle fabrics and good structuring, with no unnecessary embellishments. Some of my formal designs are inspired by the graceful work Edith Head did in the 50s and 60s,the golden age in Hollywood for actresses such as Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. A hint of old fashion is a great way to add some uniqueness, she said.
The collection, which also brings in floor-length gowns and shift dresses,is priced Rs 4,500 onwards.
