The race is on and all eyes have been trained at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida that is hosting a new season of Indian Grand Prix 2012. For racing enthusiasts,it’s also a unique opportunity to get to see their favourites live in action and if lucky, get up-close and personal. Stepping out of the pits and their race suits were Sahara Force India teammates Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg, who turned stylists for a day at the newly opened Hackett London store in Delhi. The luxury menswear brand is the team’s clothing partner and the event saw the two ace drivers lower their guard and showcase their sartorial sense at the event. Incidentally,Di Resta was quick to admit that he likes shopping in London. “I generally find Hackett compliments my taste with its range of clothes that are a mix of casual, smart and formal styles,” he said.

When on the track, drivers are always in their made-to-measure race suits, that,as teammate Hulkenberg explains, are made using “technical material” which makes them extremely durable and flame resistant. “The suits have to conform to strict FIA safety regulations and be the perfect fit,” says Di Resta.

When not racing, the team members have to dress in a uniform that is dependent on the team’s kit, which is allocated to them as a whole. “Personally,I tend to dress for the day or occasion. When I am feeling lazy,I will wear something comfortable and easy, but will put on a shirt and wear something smarter if I need to. I sometimes like to wear a suit,” said Hulkenberg, while Di Resta called his own style “casual and reserved”.

Stepping into the role of stylists at the store, the two seemed at ease and made some observations too. “Menswear in India is smart. It’s clear that people focus on it,” remarked Hulkenberg,as he went to reiterate the most important rule of all,“I think it’s important not only to look good, but feel good in what you wear.” Calling the Indian style “slick and smart”,Di Resta was taken in by the colours. “The colours and textiles used are always really interesting,” he summed up.

Interestingly, neither of them has a “lucky” pair of racing gear. “I am not generally a superstitious guy,” quipped Hulkenberg. Cheers to that.
