These days dining out can be quite a noisy, boisterous affair and it matters little whether you are seated in a fast food joint or a fine diner. Not expecting anything dramatically different,we headed for Glaze,a restaurant housed in Hotel Amara, the newly opened boutique hotel in Sector 43.
Its not a very busy part of the city and we realise that as we enter Glaze for lunch. With just another table occupied,we were free to choose our seating. After settling in a cosy corner,we give one glance to the the refreshing interiors, done up in a contemporary way . Theres no unnecessary clutter or singular theme that jars. The understated elegance is reflected in the choice of music as well. Thankfully,Kenny Gs instrumental collections, which most restaurants continue to play, can not be heard here. Instead, its a mix of global soothing sounds that uplift both the mood and the ambience.
The menu isnt pretentious either. Since its a restaurant in hotel, the primary target of which, are the in-house guests, its understandable why Glaze offers popular favourites hand-picked from multi-cuisines. Theres everything from Mughlai to Oriental to Continental, but theres no plump show, instead a slim, careful selection. From murg malai tikka to seekh kebabs, spring rolls to prawns and pasta, theres something to please all palates.
We choose to stick to oriental and order a steamy chicken hot and sour soup along with spiced honey chicken to start with. The service is quick and the spicy honey chicken dish came as a huge portion of eight drumsticks and lasted us through the main course. For the latter we order Thai chicken red curry along with vegetable fried rice. Though we wanted to order Chinese vegetable fritters as well, the steward politely pointed out that we were over-ordering. A few minutes later when the dishes arrive,we realise that he was absolutely right. The rice dish was good for three and the red curry for two people. The only grouse is that the currys flavour was overpowered by galangal and the chicken in the curry was a bit chewy. But the pleasant ambience and efficient service made up for it. Glaze is ideal for a lazy luncheon or quiet dinner and unlike its name, its elegant and more of a matte than a super glossy spread.
