The police claimed to have busted a fake currency racket with the arrest of two members of a gang late on Wednesday night from the motor market in Sector 48. Fake currency worth Rs 51,000 in Rs 1000 notes was recovered from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Saurav Choudhary,resident of Tarn Taran and Raj Kumar Gill,a resident of Ferozpur. According to the police,the accused are also involved in cases of vehicle theft in the tricity. They had brought the fake currency from Amritsar a few days ago and were looking for a place to exchange them for original currency, the police said.
Station House Officer of the Sector-31 police station Inspector Bhupinder Singh said they received a tip-off about people carrying fake currency. We are interrogating them about the source of the fake notes, he added.
