Fair Deal

What started as a lean affair a couple of years ago is now a plump show.

What started as a lean affair a couple of years ago is now a plump show. A much anticipated event on the city’s annual roster, especially when it comes to shopping and splurging during weekend, the Vanity Fair, hosted at the Whispering Willows Country Resort in Zirakpur,is getting bigger each year. With nearly 150 exhibitors, the two-day event is a good place to update yourself on latest trends. From home accessories to furniture, linen to pottery, jewellery to clothes, trinkets to charms — there’s a potpourri of articles to choose from. The highlights of this year’s edition on October 8-9 includes a beer-and-barbecue fest by the poolside, along with live performances by singer Andre, popularly known as ‘Vintage Andre’. A new attraction this time is a fun photo booth put up by AprilSher Bhaika and Kismet Jewell Nakai, complete with freaky props and backdrops. There’s a long list of designer labels also — Dharini from Jammu,Hangover from Delhi,Amita G and Uma Kanoi from Kolkata and Crimzon from Mumbai — to list a few. Do check out the natty products like block-printed cloth bags, aprons, friendship bands and candles made by jail inmates and slum children under the wing of NGO Samarpan. There’s also a children’s play area by Jelly Bean Junction. To add to the fair’s variety, there will be an interaction with Ajay Khullar, author of the recently published book by Rupa Publishers,The Nothing Man,on Sunday,11am onwards. With Diwali not too far away, organiser Priya Jagat has given space to Diwali gifts like brocade rangolis,gem-studded diyas and more.
