DAV College (Sector 10) student is grandson of former SGPC president,taken into preventive arrest along with friend
The grandson of former SGPC President Jagdev Singh Talwandi and son of ex-Raikot MLA Ranjit Singh was taken into preventive arrest after he allegedly hit a traffic policeman. The accused,identified as Sector 39 resident Jagteshwar Singh and Sector 16 resident Karanbir Ahuja,were produced before the SDM South on Wednesday. The two are students of DAV College,Sector 10. The cop has not filed a complaint and UT Police are trying to downplay the case.
According to sources,the two were returning to their house from a gym in their Innova (PB 56 C 0007) on Wednesday morning. Assistant Sub-Inspector Dalip Singh signaled them to stop near the Sector 37-38 small roundabout as Jagteshwar was not wearing a seat belt and the car had black filming.
Eyewitnesses said,the traffic cop tried to stop the car but the accused did not stop. In an attempt to stop it,the cop came in front of it and was hit. He fell on the bonnet and was made to travel a fair distance hanging on to the wiper before the car came to a standstill. Thereafter,the accused entered into an argument with the cop.
The cop called up the PCR. When the police vehicle reached the spot,Dalip told them that the accused was signaled to stop did not do so. He said,the car had stopped a distance away from the him following which it was penalised for traffic violations.
The police took the two under preventive arrest and impounded the car. ASI Dalip Singh said,I signalled the car to stop because the two occupants were not wearing seat belts. The car stopped a distance away from me. The driver was penalised for dangerous driving,black film,driving without a seat belt,not possessing a valid driving license and disobeying a police officers signal.
