Delhi had to literally Hold On as Grammy-nominated DJ Bob Sinclar Rock [ed this party at the Hard Rock Cafe on Friday. The 41-year-old French DJ,previously known as Chris the French Kiss, played some of his best tracks to a jam-packed audience of over 800 house and dance music lovers. The air reverberated with The Beat Goes on,Sound of Freedom,The Rhythm of the Night and some of his best remixes into the wee hours of Saturday morning. Sinclar, famous for his track World,Hold On (which won him a Grammy nomination in 2007),was in Delhi to promote his latest album I Wanna.
Essentially,I love making people dance, says Sinclar. I make my music from my emotions and my soul. There’s energy in my tracks, but its not aggressive masculine energy,it is very upbeat and melodious that makes you wanna dance. Several times during his three-hour-long intense performance, people forgot the drinks they had paid for at the bar and sprinted towards the dance floor.
Sinclar is considered to be one of the first to create a glamorous image for DJs. Bob Sinclar is my alter ego, says Christophe Le Friant,Sinclar’s baptized name. I’m a very simple guy,but Bob Sinclar lets me be a superstar. I’ve created this image of seduction from the movie Le Magnifique (1973),in which Bob Sinclar is a world-renowned super spy. And I get to be this ultra-hip DJ who plays soulful music.
Having played at some of the best parties globally which earned him a console in Ibiza,Sinclar’s own parties are quite low key. I like to invite very few people, and they have to be very attractive and glamorous. The men especially have to be very good-looking in an intellectual manner. So,who plays music in his parties? If I’m having a party,I have to be the one playing. That’s how I enjoy I play my music, he says.
This is the best party ever! screamed one dancer into the air before hopping off to dance his heart away to the tunes of the Pied Piper DJ. The crowd reached its crescendo a little before midnight as Sinclar played his latest hit I Wanna featuring Jamaican reggae singer Shaggy and Sahara,a Balkan band. I’ve got to work with amazing African-American artists. I’ve always said this only the Blacks can sing. Black people have soul, they have emotions and it comes alive in their music. Sinclar has collaborated with several African singers in the four-volumes of his album ‘Africanism’. So many people out there are singing everything about nothing, he says. Its boring. I want to send out a message, make them think. At the same time,I also wanna make them dance.
