The Sikh high priests, who met at Akal Takht on Friday, deferred any decision on the controversial issue of printing errors in Birs (replicas of the Granth) till the next meeting the date of which was yet to be fixed. The Jathedars, who met under Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said the matter was still under investigation.
We have examined the issue. But as more investigation is required,we will take up the matter again in the next meeting, said Jathedar Gurbachan Singh.
He added that Surinder Singh,an NRI,was summoned, but due to his daughters wedding,he was unable to appear in person.
On the issue of reported summons sent to Jathedar,Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Balwant Singh Nadgarh,Giani Gurbachan Singh said that it was unfortunate that he was being sent summons and asked the SGPC to seek legal opinion.
Nadgarh, who was present in the meeting, said the case relates to the Sikhs-Dera Sacha Sauda clash in 2007. He had condemned the attack on a gurdwara. An FIR was registered, after which he was reportedly summoned. I will not appear before any court as the Takht itself is the court and I am not involved in any criminal act, he added.
Clash averted
Meanwhile,a major clash was averted between two groups, who came in for a separate hearing. Members of Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee headed by Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala objected to the raising of slogans in the precincts of Takht by the supporters of one Dera Baba Sawinder Singh Kahna Dhesi. A religious atonement was pronounced upon Dhesi for showing dishonour to the Granth. When he came out of the Takht with the punishment of offering karah parshad, cleaning utensils and dusting shoes, his supporters started raising slogans, leading to altercations. Later, the groups tendered an apology to Jathedar Akal Takht.
