Encroachment eats into Sector 18-D market

Shopkeepers in Sector 18 D have reportedly encroached upon the corridors in the market by renting out space to those conducting repairs of electronic goods. Due to encroachment,the corridors are overcrowded thereby leaving little space for people to walk.

The booth market in Sector 18 has shops primarily dealing with electronic goods. Outside each shop a person repairing electronic goods has been given space. The shopkeepers are charge between Rs 150 and Rs 200 each day from them. Anti-encroachment drives have been held,but they have had little effect.

In a complaint given to the Municipal Corporation,a shopkeeper in the sector stated that the encroachments need to be removed. “The shopkeepers encroach upon the corridors and no action is taken against them. Over the past few years,the problem has increased manifold. A check needs to be kept on them,” he said.
