Emergency Syndicate meet today

Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor R C Sobti has called an emergency Syndicate meeting on Thursday to discuss the reinstatement of Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma to his parent department of University Business School and re-employment of 17 teachers whose appeal for enhancement in the retirement age from 60 to 65 years was recently rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The issue of Sharma is expected to lead to a fiery discussion in the meeting — scheduled at 5 pm. Sharma was accused of fudging data to obtain higher ranking among the business schools across the country and also misconduct and failure to maintain integrity with devolution to duty pertaining to paper setting of MBA,University Business School.

An inquiry report exonerating Sharma was accepted in a Senate meeting held on October 10,2010. On March 5,written applications were submitted by all the 15 Syndics in a Syndicate meet held to reinstate Sharma.
