The Chandigarh State Transport Authority (STA) is all set to start a single-window system in its Sector-18 office for around 11 services including commercial vehicle registrartion and permits for state carriages and school buses.
The objective is to make things convenient and faster for residents by computerising the entire procedure and eradicating non-value adding processes that act as speed-breakers to the service.
A detailed proposal to this effect has also been sent to the UT Administration and the final approval is awaited.
Disclosing the plans,STA Secretary Vandana Disodia said: We hope to have the computerised single-window system in place by August. The civil work is nearing completion and computers have been arranged. The department also plans to provide ramps for the disabled and adequate parking and sitting arrangement for the public. The building will be totally air-conditioned and a generator will also be provided.
The proposal was prepared after a study by Pricewaterhousecoopers assessed that the STA needs to use information technology to bring about a paper-free office culture and render efficient service delivery.
Proposed to be implemented in a phased manner, the project has been divided into three phases-conceptualisation,business case development and project implementation.
In keeping with the guidelines issued by the Centre,a detailed project report has been prepared on the present level of computerisation in the department, processes to be computerised, broad level of process changes, technology, solutions, project plan and total cost of the project, said Disodia.
Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar said the Chandigarh Administration has taken several initiatives for modernising service delivery in tune with the National e-Governance Plan.
The e-governance roadmaps have identified eleven priority sectors as mission mode projects to provide efficient services to the people.
