Saluting the mentors of the nation,the Education Department honoured 15 teachers and principals to mark the Teachers Day,at a function held at Tagore Theatre today.
The recipients included 11 teachers and four principals from different schools across the city for their contribution in the fied of Education.
Home Secretary Ram Niwas was the chief guest on the occasion.
Among the principals who were awarded with the state awards included Indira Beniwal of Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 10,Indira Dhingra,GMSSS-37,Nirupama Khush,GMSSS(Girls)-18,Sunita Sethi,headmistress,Government Model School,Indira Colony.
The awardees have put in around three decades of service in mentoring students and making their schools one of the best known in the city.
District Education Officer,Chanchal Singh,who joined the department in 1980 as a lecturer of mathematics was also conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award alongwith Arjun Dev,registrar,education at the function. This years national award winners,Sartul Singh,teacher at Government Primary School,Manimajra and Dharamvir Singh,teacher of physical education at GMSSS- 26 (Timber Market) were also honoured.
Expressing her happiness on the achievement,Indira Beniwal,principal,GMSSS-10 said that she owed her success to her students who were the driving force and constantly motivate her to improve the school.
Chanchal Singh echoed her views saying that after giving the prime of his life to education,he is a contented man today as he sees his students carving good careers for themselves.
For last years Saboo Award winner,Neerja Jain who teaches English at GMSSS- 16,watching students grow into good human beings and imbibing values taught by her is what teaching is all about. Jain was given state award this year.
Commendation certificates were given to five teachers of varied subjects like fine arts,science etc. The winners included Nirmal Singh (GMHS-41),Bharti Vandana (GMSSS- Manimajra Complex),Nirmal Kumar (GMSSS-46),Jagpal Singh (GMSSS-40). Principal of GMSSS-16,Anujit Kaur was also given commendation certificate.
Speaking on the occasion,Ram Niwas,appreciated the hardwork teachers put in to teach right values to students. Calling it the only profession which has a feel of selflessness,Niwas said that teachers were rightly called the mentors of the nation.
Their devotion is selfless as they simply give education,good values and moral to their students without expecting anything in return. However,this profession is gradually turning into a chore for many rather than passion. We need passionate and devoted teachers to carve the best human beings out of our children, said Niwas.
