The police said a woman, Balwinder Kaur, from the nearby Bhola Colony, identified him as her son Major Singh. She told the police that her son was a drug addict who did manual labour on some days. The police sent the body for an autopsy to be conducted Monday. Local people claimed a syringe was lying near the body, but the police denied it.
They registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Jamalpur police station under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 304 (causing death by negligence) and 34 (common intention) against three people, including a couple, for allegedly providing drugs to the deceased.
Inspector Bikramjit Singh, Station House Officer of the Jamalpur police station, identified the people booked as Raju, his wife Jagjit Kaur and another man Kalia, all three from the Divya Colony. The FIR was registered on the statement of the victim’s mother, who told police that her son used to get heroin from these local peddlers. She told the police that he left the home on Saturday but did not return.
The police said the man was married, but his wife was living separately following a strained relationship.
