Drive against car pollution from today

From Sunday the Chandigarh Traffic Police will start issuing challans to those who do not have certificates confirming that their vehicles do not cause pollution.

From Sunday the Chandigarh Traffic Police will start issuing challans to those who do not have certificates confirming that their vehicles do not cause pollution.

“The decision has been taken to ensure that no pollution is caused by the commuters. Those who do not have pollution free certificates for their vehicles will be challaned straight away. Vehicles which have such certificates but are found polluting the environment or emitting smoke beyond the permissible limit will be challaned,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP),Traffic,Vijay Kumar.

Such a violation can cost an offender over Rs 1,000. DSP Traffic added that the Chandigarh Traffic Police,other than drunken driving and traffic violations,will check as to whether vehicle owners have certificates of smoke emission test. Special nakas will be set up from Sunday onwards.
