Dried leaves not picked up regularly,create problems

Sarabjit Pannu,a resident of Sector 9 said that the pile of leaves outside his house has not been picked up for around a month. “The level of maintenance in the city is deteriorating. The sweepers do not make any effort. The dry leaves need to be picked up. The heap just keeps increasing with no action being taken,” he said.

In fact heaps of dry leaves can be seen in most sectors. At times these are set on fire,a practice that is banned. A resident of Sector 22 has a similar problem.

She says that while every time the sweeper says that a trolley would come to pick up the heap of leaves,nothing has been done in the past few weeks. She says that after the heap started piling up,it became a spot for throwing garbage and construction waste which is causing a problem for residents in the area.

The officials of the civic body meanwhile say that trolleys have been deployed for removing the dry leaves. These move around the city in order to pick up the leaves and orders have been issued not to burn these.
