Imaginative festive wear will add the right touch of style to the upcoming season, shows LFW Day Four
Rehane Yavar Dhala
In her first festive/bridal collection, the Chennai-based designer showcased a series of contemporary looks without compromising on the gold and velvet that Indian women love so much. The gold cutwork fabric reappeared throughout the collection in tunics,cut-away pants and dupattas, with a fair sprinkling on handworked embroidery. Our favourite look was the gold tissue sari with multi-hued embroidered paisleys festive and classy.
Manish Malhotra
The swirling kurtas and lehengas, unabashed use of velvet and brocade, sheer dupattas and sexy cholis what would it be if not a Manish Malhotra collection? Shimmery and ultra-glamorous,theres no denying its all pretty and just right for the coming festive season. But havent we seen those harem pants, the high-slit kurtas and the flowing skirts? Too right,we have.
Soup by Sougat Paul
Going by his second collection at the LFW,this young designer seems to be creating his signature look. Each dress in the collection, with the intricate weaves, rouches, pleats, thread cord work and piping often in the same piece will make a great conversation point at any cocktail party,to be worn by a woman confident enough to not let the dress overwhelm her. Caution, though: dont pick up a dress from this collection if youre addicted to statement jewellery,as the outfit makes a loud enough statement.
Vikramjit Choudhury
His collection was like a rose pressed into the pages of a yellowed old journal aged, with a whiff of romance. The rose motifs, vintage lace and the repeated use of yellow floral fabric whether in a jacket,a panelled skirt or raglan-sleeved dress kept the look soft and romantic. But the imaginative layering and daring silhouettes kept the look edgy and modern.
Ravage by Raj Shroff
Shroffs new age bride does not look to conform to traditional standards she forgoes a wedding at a mandap,to have an intimate ceremony on the beach. Her attire is thus suitably unconventional with asymmetrical hemlines and sheer covers over fitted tube tops. Three-dimensional floral appliqués take the place of ornaments and the look is suitably elegant,as the collection mixes handloom fabrics with silks and chiffons.
