Two separate cases were registered in Chandigarh against five persons for demanding dowry. Police said that a case was registered in police station sector 19 after Neerja Sharma a resident of Sector-19 alleged that her husband Anup Duggal,her father-in- law Mohinder Duggal and mother-in-law Shashi Duggal all residents of Sector 19 harassed her to bring more dowry.
Police said that the Woman and Child Support Unit (WCSU),tried their best to bring the couple together but the efforts did not yield the desired result and finally a case under section 406 (criminal breach of trust),498-A (enticing or taking away or detaining with criminal intent a married woman) was registered. Police is investigating.
In another case,Harmanjit Kaur resident of Sector-30,Chandigarh alleged that her husband Bhagwant Singh and mother in law Kailash Kaur both residents of Indra Colony,Kurukshetra,were demanding more dowry. Police registered a case under section 406,498-A IPC in Police Station Industrial Area,Chandigarh.
