From a bathroom singer at the age of 12 to rendering bhajans in various parts of the world,Siddharth Mohan has come a long way. Mohan,26,is a singer with the Art of Living group and was at the Tagore Theatre in the city on May 13 for a performance to mark the birthday celebrations of Shri Shri Ravi Shankar. His mother Neera Mohan is a senior teacher with the group, and he is the only major singer who sings in Punjabi.
The auditorium was jampacked with followers of the group who rose to their feet, dancing in abandon as Mohan started singing Sufi and other devotional songs. A former mechanical engineer who worked with an Ukrainian firm till three years ago,Mohan says he has found his calling. Guruji (Shri Shri Ravi Shankar) told me to give up my job and be a full-time singer. This is much more satisfying, he says, adding that he is happy to see youngsters are also part of his audience. Coming up is Mohans third album Sufi Strings. He is also acting and composing music for an upcoming movie.
