A Chandigarh executive engineer was placed under suspension by the Municipal Commissioner for illegally granting permission to a company to install temporary mobile towers for singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert. The executive engineer was also ordered not to leave the office without permission of the commissioner.
Diljit Dosanjh’s concert was held in Chandigarh on December 14 with over 50,000 people flocking to the venue.
Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar got to know that Ajay Garg, Executive Engineer, Roads, Division No. 3, MC, Chandigarh, had allegedly granted permission on December 13 to M/s Bharti Airtel Limited, Plot No. 21, Rajiv Gandhi Technology Park, Chandigarh, for installing three mobile tower cell on wheels on a temporary basis to cover the network on December 14 at Exhibition Ground in Sector 34, Chandigarh, against charges of Rs 20,000 + GST in account of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.
The suspension order issued by the commissioner said, “…Ajay Garg, Executive Engineer, Roads, Division No. 3, MC, Chandigarh has granted the said permission without obtaining prior approval from the competent authority and without following the proper procedure required for granting such permissions. Whereas, a show cause notice vide this office on December 14 was served upon the said officer with the direction to submit the reply to the same within three days, however, nothing in this regard has been heard from the officer concerned.”
It was added, “Now, therefore, the undersigned being the Appointing Authority, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (1) of Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules 1965 hereby place Ajay Garg, Executive Engineer, Roads, Division No. 3, MC, Chandigarh under suspension with immediate effect.”
Diljit Dosanjh’s concert has been in the news for violating noise pollution levels, as per report submitted by the administration in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
