Digital Forensic Lab, Ludhiana. Ludhiana police commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhy inaugurated a digital forensic lab at the Sarabha Nagar police station for the Ludhiana range Saturday (April 15).
The lab, operating from the first floor of the police station exclusively for the Ludhiana range, is expected to reduce the burden on the existing lab in Mohali and speed up probes. Currently, the Ludhiana police have to wait for months to get forensic reports from Mohali.
The new lab will cater to cases of Ludhiana city police, Ludhiana rural police, Khanna Police and SBS Nagar (Nawanshahr) police.
The lab will provide services such as data extraction from mobile phones, SIM cards, microSD cards, tablets, hard disk drives, pen drives, laptops, central processing units and so on.
CP Sidhu said that earlier, the police had to go to the Digital Investigation Training and Analysis Centre (DITAC) lab of the state cybercrime Cell at Phase-4 in Mohali to avail such services in various cases. Due to the heavy workload to provide such services to the entire Punjab, there was a delay in sending the results to the respective districts.
The lab opening in Ludhiana will also help investigate cybercrimes as there was a need for a speedy probe, said Sidhu. He added that this lab would solve the delay in inspecting mobiles, laptops and other electronic devices and lead to a quick investigation.
