Last week,we introduced you to the ‘X’ factor, and steered you from the infamous MMS to a very useful MMX – the Mobile Music Exchange. Brought to life by the Indian Music Industry, the MMX is a new weapon to fight piracy in the digital world. In a similar attempt, all the leading music companies of Punjab got together and have formed ‘Worldwide Digital Distribution Licence’. “WWDL is a platform whereby all the music companies will be able to jointly control and monitor music produced on the digital format,” Catrack’s Gaurav Trehan throws light on their new product called the ‘Digi Dhol’. Now this little thing will not only fight piracy, but will also bring all the music companies of the state on one common platform. “It’s difficult to sell music individually and with the influx of technology, things are getting harder,” says Gaurav adding how, through WWDL,they’ll be issuing licenses for the first six months to music dealers, shopkeepers and retailers who use electronic gadgets like pen drive,Cds,memory chips to download music. “Following which,we’ll be selling the licence online,on http://www.digidhol.com,” adds Gaurav. This drive will cover Delhi to Jammu and streamline all genres of music under one common roof. “It’s a legal form of transferring date, and we’ll be charging Rs 5,000 for urban areas and Rs 3,000 for rural as license fee,” Gaurav signs off.
