DGP prisons dies,cremated

DGP,Sohan Singh was cremated with full police honours at his native village near Ambala.

Director General of Police (Prisons),Sohan Singh,who died last night after a prolonged illness at the Indira Gandhi medical College Hospital here was cremated with full police honours at his native village near Ambala.

The death comes a month before the 1974 batch IPS officer was due to retire. Top police officers of Himachal Pradesh,Haryana and Punjab attended the cremation. Additional Director General of Police Somesh,Superintendent of Police,Sirmaur Puneeta Bhardwaj were present.The state cabinet,in its meeting today paid rich tributes to Sohan Singh while a condolence meeting was also organised at the Police Headquarters to remember his services to the force and state. State Governor Urmila Singh has also condoled the demise of the officer.

Singh is survived by his wife,a son who is a lawyer in the Supreme Court and a daughter – an Indian Foreign Services officer.
