Deputy CM reviews development projects,orders quick completion

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Wednesday took stock of the ongoing development projects as well as those in the pipeline for Mohali and ordered the pace of work to be accelerated so that the aim of developing Mohali as the future city of Punjab is achieved soon.

Chairing a meeting attended by Arun Goel,secretary,Punjab Housing and Urban Development,Greater Mohali Area Development Authority Chief Administrator Vivek Partap Singh, Mohali Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand and Mohali District Planning Board Chairman N K Sharma,Sukhbir said maintaining the pace of development “in the next IT destination” was imperative to attract multinational IT companies for setting up base in Punjab.

“With the completion of the upcoming international airport,Mohali would be the gateway of Punjab for international tourists visiting the state,” he said.

Focusing on development,maintenance and landscaping of roads,parking areas and community parks in the satellite town of Mohali,the Deputy CM said landscaping of main roads should be conducted through a professional town planning agency and the project should be executed through renowned firms.

It was added that sector-level committees should be formed and motivated to help the government in maintenance of over 500 parks in residential areas because they serve as the lungs of Mohali.

Sukhbir also the government would soon create a special post of an official in GMADA,who would be responsible solely for the development of Mohali.

Reviewing the development of upcoming Sectors 76-80,the Deputy CM directed GMADA to launch a massive drive to upgrade the roads of the sectors within 18 months.

Sukhbir also asked the Deputy Commissioner and GMADA chief to submit a prospective plan envisaging Mohali’s development within a month.

Punjab MP stresses on spreading awareness on Central schemes

“Awareness on various developmental schemes of the Centre is the need of the hour so that more and more people at the grassroots are covered and the ongoing public information campaign (PIC) is an effective programme to reach out to the rural masses,” said Anandpur Sahib MP Ravneet Singh Bittu,while addressing the second day session of Bharat Nirman PIC organized by the Press Information Bureau in Majri block of Mohali on Wednesday. Bittu said the Central government schemes have benefited a number of people,particularly women,as they have generated self-employment in rural areas by setting up self-help groups and schemes like NREGA were also uplifting the living standard of rural masses. 

Former Punjab Minister Jagmohan Singh Kang also hailed the efforts of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Referring to ambitious schemes like NREGA,Bharat Nirman,Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan and National Rural Health Mission,Kang urged people to take advantage of the programmes by seeking proper information. The second day of the drive was dedicated to the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) mid-day meal scheme and girls’ education. During the session,Shubla Sharma,district SSA project coordinator,elaborated upon different education schemes for students. The students of Shaheed Lt Bikram Singh Senior Secondary School in Sialbah village also took out a rally to highlight the message of girl education,mid-day meal scheme and SSA. ens
