Deputy Election Commissioner Alok Shukla has directed the district election officers in Haryana that the entire process relating to elections be videographed to ensure free and fair elections.

He has also issued directions that facilities like electricity, potable water, toilet and ramp facilities should be provided to the electorate at all polling booths. Shukla gave these directions while addressing deputy commissioners and Superintendents of Police of Rohtak Division, today.

He asserted that since the postal ballot played a pivotal role in the victory or defeat of a candidate, special care should be taken of these ballots. He briefed the officers on the process involved in the issuance of postal ballots. All employees associated with the election process should be given a chance to cast their vote,he said.

On the electronic voting machines (EVMs),he said these had played a great role in the election process. He maintained that the EVMs could not be tampered with. Shukla directed that EVMs should be checked by the returning officer and got tested by the candidates and their polling agents before commencement of the polling.

He stressed the need for intensive training for the polling staff in the use of EVMs.

Shukla said the process of mock polls should be completed before the start of polling. This process must be finished at least one hour before the commencement of polling and should be analysed by casting at least 100 votes and the polling agents should be apprised of the process. The agents should be shown empty EVMs before the start of the election process.
