DC reduces area under AEO purview

UT Deputy Commissioner Mohd Shayin,in an order passed on Wednesday,reduced the area under the purview of the Assistant Estate Officer Rahul Gupta for tackling quasi-judicial work.

The Land Acquisition Officer Tilak Raj has also been conferred upon with the powers of the Estate Officer.

As per the orders,quasi-judicial work has been re-assigned. This was reportedly done due to the increasing pendency of cases.

The AEO has powers of the Estate Officer. The LAO has also been given similar powers. The LAO would look into Sectors 1 to 30 and Industrial Area,Phase I. Meanwhile,the AEO has been given Sectors 31 onwards and Industrial Area,Phase II. For their respective areas,the two officers would exercise powers of the Estate Officer in respect of quasi-judicial proceedings of misuse of all types of premises/sites and building violations.

Deputy Commissioner Mohd Shayin said,The pendency of cases with the AEO was increasing and he was overworked. In order to expedite the proceedings it was decided to distribute the work. Some of the cases are pending for years.

This would streamline the functioning.

The cases that the Estate Office deals with are those pertaining to building violations or misuse. Notices have been issued to the violators. Thereafter starts a process wherein appeals are filed against the notices. Generally,the cases drag on for several years. At present,more than 700 cases are pending.

The cases which are pending for more than five years have been taken over by the DC to dispose these off faster.

Meanwhile,AEO Rahul Gupta said that the distribution of work is a welcome step. He added that this would ensure expediting of cases.
