The voter turnout at the student elections this year has thrown up some surprising figures. DAV College in Sector 10,which usually takes the lead with a large a number of students exercising their franchise, finished last, while SD College,Sector 32,bagged the top slot.

Around 45 per cent students cast their votes in SD College, compared to the poor show of around 35 per cent in DAV College.

Voting percentages at other colleges, including SGGS,SGGS (Girls),Dev Samaj College and Government College for Girls,Sector 42,varied between 40 to 42 per cent.

It was a clear mandate for contesting parties in DAV and SD College, with panels of SOPU and SDCU-SDHU elected by a fair margin, respectively.

It was a close fight,at SD College with Himanshu Chauhan (SDCU) elected president who bagged 623 votes as opposed to his rival Abhishek Sharma (SOPU),who garnered 528 votes.

The third contestant,Amanpreet Singh (PUSU) got around 100 votes. Vikas Bansal from SDCU has won the post of joint secretary defeating Saloni of SOPU. Sources claim that the hostel residents led the party to a sweeping triumph as the lion’s share of votes came from there.
