Crooning Glory

She is 14 and she is already on a roll. Patiala-based Asmita Garg may not look one bit like the title of her album,Ringa Ringa — The Crazy Girl, but hear her out and the girl can definitely croon with confidence and a professional tone. Add to it,the temper of a playback singer and performer.

Student of Class VIII,Ringa Ringa marks Garg’s third album and her first solo album of Hindi songs. Interestingly, all the seven tracks share titles with hit Bollywood numbers. The album has songs titled Teri Deewani,Mahiya,Naughty Naughty,Tere Naina and so on. “It is a marketing strategy to stand out amidst the clutter of independent albums that are out there,” say the music directors of the album,Prekhar and Vaibhav. As for Garg, she has been singing since she was five and has made it to the top seven positions of Punjabi channel MH1’s reality show,Nikki Awaaz Punjab Di. While Garg considers Lata Mangeshkar as her idol,Sunidhi Chauhan comes to her mind when she has to deliver contemporary peppy numbers. “I have been training in Hindustani classical music in Patiala and want to pursue music as a full time career,” says the teenager who is all set to sing her way to glory.
