In a major crackdown against illegal constructions, Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) sealed at least ten hotels in Jawahar Nagar camp area, near Bus stand, Wednesday. The move was met with heavy opposition as hotel owners protested against the civic body and tried to gherao officials. Ludhiana MC in a statement said that the hotels were constructed in violation of the building bylaws, due to which the action was taken in presence of police force. The civic body officials stated a petition was filed against these illegal hotels in the High Court in the past. Following this, the department issued directions to take strict action against the violations. Majority hotel owners have failed to leave proper parking space or have failed to get the building plans approved from the MC. Notices were issued to the owners in the past, but they failed to show up, said MC. The civic body officials stated that more such violations have been identified in the area and action will also be taken against those buildings in the coming days. The civic body officials urged the residents to get the building plans approved from MC before commencing the construction works and should construct the buildings as per the building bylaws, otherwise strict action will be taken against them.
