Costume Queen

Dolly Ahluwalia Tewari is not being able to stop beaming ever since the letter from IIFA was delivered at her residence. “I thought it must be an invitation as I had received a call from the IIFA office asking for my postal address a couple of days back,” she says. To her delight and surprise, she found that she had won the IIFA award for best costume design for Love Aaj Kal. “None of us had a clue,” says the designer who gave that perfect old-world look to a handsomely turbaned Saif Ali Khan in the film and made Giselli Monteiro look like a typical Punjabi damsel. “I designed the look for both Khan and Monteiro and they were a treat to work with,” says Tewari, all set to attend the ceremony on June 5 at Colombo,Sri Lanka. From sourcing check shirts,bell-bottom pants, the Patiala style of turban,a real beard and making Khan appear taller than the other Sikh boys and Monteiro,Tewari had a tall order. Watch her work in Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming Johnny Mastana.
