The police registered five cases of cheating including two related to immigration fraud on Thursday.
A Sector 38 (W) resident was duped of Rs 18.75 lakh by two persons who promised him a job in a London Hotel after he received a mail from them. The complainant Pardeep Kumar works with Reliance in Chandigarh.
He alleged that Van Good Man and Parkash Chauhan,who identified themselves as representatives of Marriott Hotel,London,duped him of Rs 18.75 lakh by promising him a job in the hotel. The police have registered a case of cheating,criminal intimidation,criminal conspiracy and under the Information Technology (IT) Act against the accused.
According to police,Kumar had applied for a job online and in January last year he received a mail stating that he had got a job in Marriott Hotel,London. The accused got in touch with Kumar over phone and mail and told him deposit the money for various formalities that needed to be completed before his joining.
Kumar deposited the said amount in instalments in bank account numbers was given to him by the accused. The accused kept asking Kumar to deposit more money and the process continued for over six months after which the victim lodged the complaint with police. The police,after preliminary investigations,registered a case on Thursday. The account numbers and the phone numbers belong to India.
In the another case ,Dalbir Singh,a resident of Police Society,Sector 51,alleged that Sector 40 resident Charanjit Singh duped him of Rs 12 lakh by promising that they would send him abroad. Later the accused did not send him abroad and did not return the money either. A case in this regard has been registered at the Sector 34 police station .
A resident of Raipur Khurd was cheated of Rs 5 lakh by a Panchkula resident on the pretext of sending him abroad. Balbir Singh had complained to police in November that Harish Kumar alias Chinku took the money from him and promised him to send him to United Kingdom. Later the accused did neither. A case of cheating has been registered against the accused at the Industrial Area police station.
