The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Raj Shekhar Attri on Wednesday convicted an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Chandigarh Police on charges of sexual abuse. The court convicted ASI Dalwinder Singh under Section 377 (unnatural offences) of the IPC.
The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Thursday. The case was registered in November 2008 following which the ASI was suspended. According to the prosecution, the minor boy had stated in his complaint that he was sitting at a bus shelter in Sector 30 when the cop came on a motorcycle and forced him to accompany him. Dalwinder allegedly took the boy to his house in Sector 20 and threatened to shoot him if he did not concede to his demand. The policeman had later dropped the victim home. Denying the allegations, the accused officer maintained that he was being implicated in a false case. Contradictory to the claims of the prosecution, the accused said he was on his way home when he saw the boy sitting alone at the bus-stop.
Dalwinder said the child claimed his parents had beaten him up and requested to be dropped in Sector 42,but he (the cop) took the boy home and also met his parents.
